application of Epoxy Coatings to the Garage floor

Often we don’t think about our garages or pay much focus on the look of them. They are merely a place to park the vehicles and store the excess boxes of Xmas decor and such. However, like any other room in your own home your storage area floor must be taken good care of.
Due to the use it gets, combined with water, gas and petrol that will inescapable be spilled after it, garage floors may easily become broken and get started to break apart over time of use. Epoxy coating is one means to fix your garage floor coverings challenge. Epoxy coating applies a level of sealant and protectant to your concrete garage area floor to make it avoid staining, moisture problems and helps it maintain its appearance.
Installing epoxy flooring takes a little up-front prep before beginning. The main step in the process is ensuring the floor you will apply the epoxy coating onto is free from moisture, residual paint and does not have a cement sealer or other finishing applied to it.
To check for moisture, have a sheet of clear plastic and take it to a 3-feet x 3-foot area using masking tape. Keep it there for approximately two times and then remove and look for any moisture collecting on the side of the plastic facing the ground. If moisture is present, than an epoxy floor coverings finish is not suited as epoxy needs a dry surface to properly connection with the floor.
Next, we’ll test to make certain the flooring doesn’t have a sealant already put on it. This test will also check for the presence of natural oils in the concrete as well. Have a cup of water and put it immediately onto the existing flooring. It should soak into the floor in a reasonable timeframe. If it beads or maybe sits together with the flooring then your floor coverings has probably already been sealed or is made up of oil contaminants. Epoxy flooring is not ideal for cement floors that contain already been closed or contain any kind of oil residue as you won’t bond.
Finally, if you are willing to spend several months testing an area of your garage area floor for suitability to setting up epoxy floors you can paint a small area with regular, oil-based enamel. If this test area continues for several months then chances are an epoxy covering will last as well. However, if you decide to proceed with applying the epoxy coating you will need to remove this enamel layer that may require sanding.
